Rural Women Upliftment Society (RWUS) continues offering help to IDPs affected by Manipur Ethnic Conflict

Churachandpur, July 7, 2023: The Rural Women Upliftment Society (RWUS) remains dedicated to providing assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. Since the violence erupted on May 3, 2023, RWUS has been actively involved in offering support and relief to those residing at the 103 (at present) IDP camps located across Churachandpur.

Approximately 18,493 individuals have sought refuge in these camps, fleeing their homes due to the volatile situation. To address their immediate needs, RWUS has been distributing a comprehensive relief package. This package includes essential items such as food supplies, sanitary products, diapers, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, medicines, tarpaulin, plastic-mat, baby food and baby milk powder, etc. A total of 28 different items are being provided to the displaced families, along with necessary medicines to ensure their well-being.

In addition to the relief package, RWUS organized a two-day health camp on Monday and Tuesday (July 3-4, 2023). More than 800 patients from the IDP camps received consultations and medical assistance during this time. Attending doctors observed several prevailing health issues among the IDPs, including viral fever, measles among children, skin diseases, diabetes, and vitamin deficiencies. Free medicines, diapers, and sanitary pads were provided to the patients attending the health camp.

Recognizing the psychological impact of the conflict on the IDPs, RWUS has also taken the initiative to provide trauma counselling. Professional counsellors are being engaged to offer support and guidance to those in need of emotional healing and resilience.

RWUS`s continuous efforts to assist the displaced individuals demonstrate their unwavering commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by the affected communities. With their relief packages, healthcare services and traumatic counselling, RWUS is playing a vital role in supporting the well-being and rehabilitation of the IDPs.
